Be a Camel!

“There was a certain gate in Jerusalem, which is the eye of a needle, it was said, through which a camel, unless on bended knees having laid aside a burden, could not pass.”

― St. Anselm of Canterbury

Camel kneeling

Camels have impressed humans since the dawn of recorded history. We find camels depicted in several of the earliest cave paintings, dated to 15,000-30,000 years ago.  Enormous camel sculptures carved into canyon walls were recently discovered in Saudi Arabia, the sculptures are marvels of ancient human artistry. These camel sculptures have been dated to around 5,000 B.C, more than 2,000 years before Stonehenge and the Pyramids at Giza were erected.

“Do not free a camel of the burden of his hump;
you may be freeing him from being a camel.”

― G. K. Chesterton

“Christians and camels receive their burdens kneeling.”

- Ambrose Bierce

“Trust in God, but tie up your camel.”

- Middle Eastern Proverb

“As a camel kneels before his master to have him remove his burden at the end of the day, so kneel each night and let the Master take your burden.”

— Corrie ten Boom

“In cities it is useless to look at the stars or to describe them, worship them, or seek direction from them. When lost, one should follow the tracks of the camels.”

- Rawi Hage
